4.7L PERFORMANCE ENTHUSIAST - DODGE RAM's, DAKOTA's, DURANGO's. I had to do the head gaskets on my Durango 4.7 whic involves taking the timing chains off and putting them back on. Did not have to take the oil pan off - not sure why Airram - who is the #1 expert on the 4.7 - says you have to.. you would be lost, as there is timing marks.

RE: timing a 4.7 motor. IP: Logged. Message: It's complicated but, there's 4 sprockets, 3 chains, 4 timing marks and 9 plated chain links that need to be positioned. First, the engine must be at TDC on the timing mark. Both cams must have the V8 mark at 12 0'clock. The crank sprocket mark (dot) must be at 6 o'clock.

#1 · Mar 15, 2014 Rebuilt a 4.7 during christmas and ran into intermittent start issues. Threw 3 different cam sensors in and finally narrowed it down to a poor crank sensor. Broke inside the block when I tried taking it out so I pulled the axle, steering rack and oil pan off and pounded it into the block and changed it, fixed the problem.

To confirm- the crak shift mark should be on zero which is Crank Shift Center- THe camshift sproket should align with the headmark. Make sure both marks don't move.
